Which plate is right for you?
The three plate types do different jobs. Pick on how you lift and what you lift onto, not on price alone.
Cast iron
Bare iron discs. The cheapest way to add load, and the most compact on the sleeve.
- Lowest cost per kilo
- Thin, so more fits on the bar
- Never drop these on a home floor
Bumper plates
Rubber discs of matched diameter. Built to be dropped from overhead, so they suit Olympic lifting and garage gyms.
- Drop-safe, protects floor and bar
- 450 mm diameter across all weights
- Quietest option for a home gym
Tri-grip
Rubber-coated iron with three cut-out handles. The all-rounder for general strength work and loading racks.
- Easy to carry and load one-handed
- Rubber coat protects floors
- Not rated for overhead drops

Common questions
Bore sizes, drop ratings, pallet delivery and trade terms, answered without the runaround.
Will these plates fit my bar?
Every plate on this site has a 50.4 mm Olympic bore, so it fits any standard 2 inch bar sleeve. If your bar is a 1 inch standard bar, you need our 25.4 mm plates instead, listed under standard plates.
Can I drop bumper plates on a concrete garage floor?
Yes, but put rubber matting down first. Bumpers protect the bar and the plate, not the slab. We recommend 15 mm mats or a dedicated drop zone under the bar.
How accurate are the weights?
Calibrated plates are held to plus or minus 1%. Standard cast iron and tri-grip plates are held to plus or minus 3%, which is normal for the category. The tolerance is listed on every product page.
How is a heavy order delivered?
Anything over 30 kg goes on a pallet. We call to book a delivery day, and the driver brings it to the kerb. Let us know at checkout if access is tight or there are steps.
Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?
Yes. Gyms, schools, PTs and clubs get tiered pricing, and we can invoice on 30-day terms once an account is set up. Send your list through the trade enquiry form.
What if I change my mind?
You have 30 days to return unused kit in its packaging, on top of your 14-day statutory right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. We arrange collection for anything over 30 kg.
